EU To Launch 'Corporate Tax Fairness' Project2020-07-08 10:55:12

The European Commission has published a call for proposals for a "Tax Observatory" project that would enhance the involvement of civil society in the advocacy, design, and implementation of EU actions to combat tax evasion, avoidance, and aggressive taxation, and to promote fair taxation.

According to the Commission, the Observatory would ideally be composed of tax professionals, lawyers, researchers, journalists, and academics. Its focus would be on corporate taxation.

The Commission said that the activities to be funded for the Observatory would include the production of evidence and recommendations on fighting tax evasion, avoidance, and aggressive tax planning. The Observatory would create a publicly available repository of data and analysis on tax evasion, avoidance, and aggressive tax planning in the EU, and disseminate evidence to inform the wider public of issues related to tax fairness.

The Observatory would also provide policymakers with expertise and liaise with international organizations and national administrations.

The total budget earmarked for the co-financing of projects under the call for proposals is estimated at EUR1.2m. The deadline for the submission of proposals is October 2, 2020.
